Verda Beck Obituary

Verda Mae Beck, 93, of Beavertown, surrounded by family, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, October 21, 2024, at Brookdale Grayson View, Selinsgrove.

She was born October 27, 1930, in Berwick, the first child to the late Virgil Hettinger and Ruth G. Cope. On Dec. 30, 1950, she married the love of her life, the late Donald E. Beck, who passed away April 13, 2024. Their love spanned 73 years and they were inseparable. Also preceding her in death is son, Gary J. Beck. Verda, or Mae, is survived by brothers Virgil J. and Rev. Robert J. Hettinger, sister, Sherry J. Boone, children Robert C. (Denise), Kathy S. Coslett (Scott), Diane Beck (Gary), grandchildren Alyssa, Briana, Ashley, Austin and one great- grandson, Theo Tovornik.

Verda Mae was a graduate of Berwick High School with the class of 1948. She held various jobs growing up at local businesses including the Coblentz Clothing Store and working as an Administrative Assistant at the American Car & Foundry (ACF) where she also appeared in several marketing campaigns including the famous Talgo train. Upon relocating to Snyder County, she held various Administrative Assistant and Student Loan Officer positions with Tri- County and Northern Central Banks. She then worked as an Administrative Assistant for AxRunkle P.C. Attorneys before fully retiring.

Verda Mae had a strong spiritual relationship with the Lord. That was reflected in how she lived her life and how she anchored her family’s values and beliefs. She loved meeting people and their families. Those relationships became lifelong celebrations. Her favorite place to be was Sylvan Lake where she and Donnie would spend their summers. She loved the lake community and enjoyed seeing new generations ‘grow-up’ at the lake. She also had a love of the beach and collecting seashells during their time in Fort Myers, FL. It is also fitting that she loved lighthouses not just as beautiful objects, but also as a symbol of a greater guiding light.

Friends and family will be received from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, with a memorial service to follow at the Kreamer Funeral Home, 130 S. Zechman St., Beavertown.

A fellowship luncheon will follow the service at the Beaver Lutheran Church, 18207 Rt. 522, Beavertown.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Verda Mae’s memory can be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure or the Alzheimer’s Association.
