Steve D. “Pap” Richard Sr., 65 of rural McClure passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at his little family farm exactly where he wanted to be.

He was born May 10, 1960, in Lancaster Co., a son of Theodora (Barket) Myers and the late Benjamin Richard. On August 20, 1994, he married the former Ruth A. Kuhns who survives.

Steve worked hard for many years as a construction subcontractor. The last 14 years he enjoyed doing what he loved, having his own little farm. He was proud of the sheep and cattle that he raised. In addition to farming, the light of his life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

If you knew Pap, you learned to appreciate his colorful language. He enjoyed having friends and family for his chicken corn soup he made in the kettle. He also enjoyed hunting and watching his grandkids get a deer, going to the Farmer’s Auction on Tuesdays, and going to public sales.

In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by five children, two he chose and three he had no choice, Steve D. (Bernadine) Richard Jr., Jeremy B. (Kristin) Richard, Angie (John) Howell, Brad (Ange) Wagner, and Amie (Mark) Bailey; ten grandchildren, Garrett (Kelly) Howell, Kolby Howell, Justin (Terra) Shirk, Morgan (Dezz) Henderson, Jordan, (Abbey) Bailey, Miranda (Josh) Derr, Alaina Richard, Wyatt Wagner, Jaden Wagner, and Hunter (Autumn) Richard; nine great-grandchildren, Brantley, Amelia, Zealand, Laiklee, Gracie, Kason, Remi, Anderson, and Aaren; two sisters, Beth (Robin) Nornhold and Stacie (Rod) Shambach; one brother-in-law, Mike Seitz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Tracie Seitz; and his stepmother, Gale Richard.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
