Ivan M Bishop

Ivan M. Bishop, 91, of McClure, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born May 19, 1932, in McClure, a son of the late Albert H. and Mabel R. (Hockenbroch) Bishop. On Dec. 24, 1952, he married the former Norma J. Treaster, who survives.

Ivan was a graduate of McClure High School with the class of 1950.

He was a life-long member of Mount Bethel Church in McClure.

Ivan worked as an auto body repairman at Cupp's Motor Co. in Lewistown and Leister Ford in McAlisterville. He then went on to further his education at Penn State and became a teacher and taught at the Juniata Mifflin Vo-Tech School in the auto body department.

Ivan was the last living member of his immediate family and in addition to his wife Norma of 71 years, he is survived by one son, Jerry (Emily) Bishop; three daughters, Joni (Steve) Heimbach, Jayni (Wayne) Walter, Jeanna (Mike) Strausser; grandchildren, Landon (Nathan), Lynelle (Craig), J.J. (Greta), Jaylene (Erik), Christa (Pete), Courtney (Bo), Breanne (Mark), Brittney (Sean), and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Trevor, Wyatt (Amanda), Rylee and fiancé Garret, Mckennin, Griffin, Gracie, Max, Braylon, Brogan, and Crew; three step-great-great-grandchildren, Colby, Casey, Brynne; two step-great-great-granddaughters, Paisley and Amelia; one great-great-granddaughter expected in August.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Park, Rodney, Warren "Lindy" Bishop; and two sisters, Emeline Brininger and Jeanette Robison.

Ivan and his wife Norma opened their home to a bonus daughter who lived with them for three years, Becky Keister Norman (Greg). They also housed 10 exchange students, four of them remained in contact, including Stefano, Rudolph, Sara, Soli (Vibha) and their daughters Karina and Kajal.

A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Mount Bethel Church, 16 E. Specht St., McClure, followed by the funeral service at 11 with Pastor Tad Schlegel and Rev. Donald Wise officiating.

Burial will follow in McClure Union Cemetery.
